Description and cause:
It is very frequent. The main reasons are an unbalanced
work piece or tool, pure stability of work piece, high rate
of cutting forces, tool overhang.
Troubleshooting:
- improve the stability of cutter and work piece
- reduce the depth of cut
- minimize tool overhang
- reduce the cutting speed
- use the tool with smaller setting angle
- reduce the chip cross section
- use the tool with low cutting resistance

Description and cause:
It usually appears at milling of soft steels and plastic
materials.
Troubleshooting:
- use cutting insert with sharp cutting edge
- use cutting insert with positive geometry
- use tool with smaller setting angle
Dimensional and shape inaccuracy of work piece
Description and cause:
Depends on a number of factors.
Troubleshooting:
- use wear resistant cutting insert
- improve the stability of the cutter and work piece,
minimize tool overhang
- use work piece with suitable machining allowance
undesirable phenomena
UNACCEPTABLE CHIP CONTROL
Description and cause:
A suitable shape of chip is an important criterion, such
as durability (tool life). Work piece material, feed, depth
of cut, suitable cutting geometry (chip breaker) effect on
the right chip forming. Long chip is unacceptable however
too short chip (crushed) is unwanted, is indicative of
overloaded edge and causes vibrations.
Troubleshooting:
- change feed and depth of cut
- use more suitable cutting geometry
- change cutting conditions
